Simulations

How simulations work

  1. Pick a simulation from the row above.
  2. Move the sliders and press buttons to change the variables.
  3. Watch the result, then compare it with your textbook.

About

About FRD Simulations

FRD Simulations is a free place to understand science by experimenting. Instead of only reading a formula, you change the variables yourself, watch what happens and then connect it to your textbook.

Every simulation is built for Physics, Chemistry and Higher Math students and works on phones as well as computers. Sliders and buttons float over the scene, so the picture stays big and clear.

What you can explore now

  • Wave: a string, superposition, standing waves, beats, the Doppler effect, resonance in air columns and the ripple tank.
  • Electricity & Magnetism: Oersted’s experiment and electromagnetic induction.
  • Conic Sections: circle, ellipse, parabola, hyperbola and eccentricity.

More topics, including Chemistry, are on the way. If you want a particular simulation, tell us.

Help & FAQ

How can we help?

Quick guides for using FRD Simulations on a phone or computer.

Using a simulation

How do I control a simulation?

Use the on-screen buttons, sliders and selectors. Drag a slider to change a value; use Play or Pause when the simulation provides it. The controls available depend on the simulation.

Can I use simulations on a phone?

Yes. The pages adapt to smaller screens. Turn your phone sideways if a particular simulation is easier to view in landscape, and use its fullscreen control when available.

Graphing Calculator

How do I enter and explore a formula?

Type an expression such as y = x^2 in a formula row. Drag the graph to pan, pinch or scroll to zoom, and use the graph controls to reset or adjust the view. Select a curve or point to inspect its coordinates.

How do sliders and the math keyboard work?

Letters used as variables in a formula can become sliders. Use the slider to change the value. On touch screens, open the keyboard button below the formula list to enter math symbols and functions.

Where are graph display and dark-mode settings?

Open the gear button in the graph's upper-right corner. Display options, including Dark graph, are in the centered Settings dialog.

Saving and troubleshooting

Are my graph formulas saved?

The Graphing Calculator saves formulas and settings in this browser on this device. Use its Save options to export a JSON copy or a PNG image. Browser data is not an online account or a cloud backup.

Something looks wrong or does not respond. What should I do?

Reload the page and try again. If the problem continues, contact us with the page name, your device/browser, and the steps that caused it.
